Nifty stations ensure every Houstonian's mobile phone stays charged

Have you experienced “nomophobia”: the fear of running out of power for your phone? Do you get anxiety and a sense of dread if your phone alerts you that its battery is low? Even worse, ever find yourself sitting on an airport floor next to a bathroom, because that’s the only outlet you can find to charge your phone?

If you’ve faced such dilemmas, you’re probably not alone. Keeping our devices charged is a growing problem for many of us — just think about the battery power you use when enjoying popular apps such as Snapchat, Instagram, Uber, and Pokémon GO. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, as our phones run more and more facets of our lives. They are our personal assistants, navigators, windows to current events, and much more.

That’s why Reliant is helping to keep you connected, with 20 new NRG Go Portable Power stations across the greater Houston area. Most Houstonians know Reliant for bringing reliable power to homes and businesses — and if we’re a power company, shouldn’t we also be the ones helping to keep you charged on the go? We certainly believe so, and we work to prove it every day.

If you’ve used city bike-sharing programs or rented a DVD from a kiosk, you’ll find the transaction process very familiar. Each self-service station lets anyone rent a power pack and charge their mobile device on the go. Users can then return the palm-sized unit to any station in the network.

Each power pack is entirely portable and comes with everything you need to stay charged, so no additional cables or outlets are required. And you’ll know you’re using some really amazing technology, as NRG Go was named an Innovation Award Honoree at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show.

Game time = free power
We’ve placed 12 of the new stations inside NRG Stadium, located at every ramp on levels one, three, and five. Whether you’re taking a picture of our “Vice President of Power Relations” J.J. Watt on the field, looking up the latest amenities at the facility, or sharing your location with fellow fans, your phone will be ready for action.

The portable power solution is free to all users throughout the Houston Texans season, and always free for Reliant residential and small business electricity customers (with a refundable deposit to your account upon return of the unit). So talk, text, and snap away, Texans fans, because your battery life won’t drain by halftime.

Hello, Katy network!
With exciting new attractions and events happening across Katy, Reliant gives local residents and visitors the power to ensure every special moment with friends and family can be captured and shared. Eight NRG Go stations have been installed around the Katy area, located at Katy Mills (two stations), Typhoon Texas (two stations), Hilton Garden Inn, Katy Family YMCA, Little Woodrow’s, and No Label Brewing Company. Go Pack rentals from these stations are free the first day for Reliant customers and only $3 per day for everyone else.

Selfies, Pokémon, but most importantly, home security
Peace of mind for phone power is one thing, but for your family’s security, it’s much more. As technology and innovation advance, we are there with the latest in security products to give you more control over your home. We have now included a new Wi-Fi Doorbell Camera into our robust suite of connected home and security offerings, which Security by Reliant customers can add with the Premium plan.

The Wi-Fi Doorbell Camera links with the Reliant Connect app to allow you to speak to visitors via two-way audio, record doorbell-triggered clips, and set motion detection rules. From the app, you can also activate a connected home door lock when the doorbell rings, automatically turn on Reliant Connect-enabled lights when motion is detected, and view a live video feed when the doorbell is pressed.

Whether it’s keeping your phone going throughout the day, or keeping tabs on who’s paying a visit to your home, Reliant helps power, protect, and simplify life. Visit Reliant.com to learn more about these newest options for Texans.
