Siri Helps Mom Save A Baby’s Life

  • A mother from Australia thanked Apple’s Siri on her iPhone for saving her baby’s life. Using the voice activation services, she managed to reach the emergency services while focused on reviving her baby.

An Australian mother of a one-year-old baby girl personal thanked Cupertino-based tech giant Apple in a letter after iPhone’s voice-activated assistant app Siri helped her save her daughter’s life.

Stacey Gleeson was alarmed upon seeing her baby, Giana, turning blue on a baby monitor. Fearing for her precious little one’s life, she rushed to clear her breathing by doing a CPR and then she remembered her iPhone’s Siri.

Seeing her iPhone dropped to the floor, Stacey shouted to activate the voice service to alert the emergency services as she concentrates on getting her baby back. She then managed to relay her address on speakerphone.

“I picked her up and sat down with her on the floor,” Stacey Gleeson said as quoted by ABC News. “And as I checked her airways, I looked over and remembered my phone. It helped save our daughter’s life and I never thought I’d have to go through something like that.”

Before baby Giana stopped breathing, she had already been suffering from a chest infection and severe bronchiolitis, Independent reported. The incident took place in March but was only brought to public attention just recently. The baby was revived and was found breathing when the paramedics arrived. The child has since recovered after the ordeal.

“As cheesy as it sounds I wanted to say thank you. I’ve only had the phone since the start of the year. I had played around with Siri, I thought it was a fun feature. Now I have that feature turned on all the time and it will never be turned off again. Saving me the trouble of having to physically dial emergency services was a godsend,” the mother said as quoted in a report by BBC News.

Meanwhile, Apple will reportedly have bigger plans for Siri come this year’s WWDC which kicks off on June 13. The Verge noted that the voice-driven technology will be built in to the next Mac OS X version. Furthermore, Siri will also become more powerful as it competes with Amazon’s Alexa.
