Penton's IoT Emerge Chicago Event Site Tour Lunch & Learns Will Offer Insights on Tech …

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Penton‘s IoT Emerge, a new event that targets the opportunities and challenges posed by IoT devices, platforms and services, presented by the IoT Institute, today announced it will host Lunch & Learns during the four local site visits on Friday, November 4. IoT Emerge will visit UI Labs, Winzeler Gear, Plant Chicago and The Morey Corporation to highlight Internet of Things (IoT) applications in real-world scenarios.

A first-of-its-kind innovation accelerator targeted at the convergence of big data, the IoT, and computing, UI LABS is developing a portfolio of applied research and commercialization Labs that address industries like manufacturing and urban infrastructure. Andrew Watkins, Managing Director of Strategy, UI LABS will present the Lunch & Learn session and will discuss the specific IoT needs of a research center. Watkins is responsible for coordination across teams to set the vision and ensure operational alignment in order to achieve it. Watkins works closely with both Labs—the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute, and City Digital—to ensure they have the right programs and resources to unlock value for the organization’s partners.

Known internationally as one of the premier designers and manufacturers of precision molded plastic gears for automotive clients, Winzeler Gear in collaboration with their molding machine supplier is creating a vision and culture for implementation of Industry 4.0 using IoT technology. During the Lunch & Learn session John Winzeler, President, will discuss the IoT requirements of a new innovative facility.  Winzeler Gear is a 76 year old, third generation, family business and Winzeler is focused on the “manufacturing of the future.”

Plant Chicago develops circular economies of food production, energy conservation and material reuse, while empowering people of all backgrounds to make their cities healthier and more efficient. The Array of Things (AoT) and The Plant Chicago are both working towards using IoT and other emerging technologies to make Chicago a smart city. The Array of Things is an urban sensing project to collect real-time data on the city’s environment, infrastructure, and activity for research and public use. During the Lunch & Learn hear from those working on both projects discuss goals and challenges.

IoT Emerge, scheduled for November 2–4, 2016 at McCormick Place in Chicago, will offer real-world education and insights, hands-on experience of IoT enabled businesses through conference programs, live demos, case studies, and local tours. Mirroring the focus of the IoT Institute on Smart Cities and the Industrial IoT, the event will provide comprehensive insights and guidance on achieving success with IoT strategies and implementations in these segments.
