The launch of Echo — a tube-shaped smart speaker powered by Amazon with its intelligent voice assistant, Alexa — surprised the tech world last 2014. It showed the world a tantalizing future powered by voice. On the other hand, Google has also released its very own voice-enabled smart speaker in May 2016: the Google Home. In October of the same year, Google also launched Google Assistant for Google Home to rival Amazon’s Echo and Alexa.

Google Assistant is a collaborative, natural language processor with machine learning and artificial intelligence usage. Its purpose is to make a one-of-a-kind and specially made rendition of Google for its users. It allows one to have a natural conversation with Google, as well as combine actions to make conversations. Using the hot word, OK Google, apps can be easily activated.

Google has extended its Google Assistant Developer Program to include each and every app developer as opposed to private beta testers and simultaneously, will expand the amount of services compatible with its assistant as Google gets ready to take on Amazon.

Unlike Amazon’s AI, Google Home users would not need to enable skills before saying instructions. As soon as the command is added to Google Home, users will be able to use any conversation action. Although details remain scant on exactly what is on the way for Google Home’s assistant feature, Google plans to firmly control the platform in its early stages.

Google is aware of upcoming challenges like how users would know and get more familiarized with new commands, which might eventually be aided by creating a search engine for such. Google Home would also become more handy and immediate once it can remove any installation phases like what Amazon’s platform has, which makes interaction with supporting services even more capable, according to DIGITAL JOURNAL.
