Google Rumored To Be Building Its Own Android Wear Smartwatch

A new rumor has surfaced, and it claims that Google is planning on building two of its own Android Wear smartwatches which will be released sometime after HTC’s Nexus handsets are announced.

One of Google’s new Android Wear smartwatches will come with full features including LTE mobile data connection, GPS and a heart rate monitor, according to Android Police’s reliable source.

This particular model is believed to have a larger and sportier look than the other model.

Speaking of the other model, it will be smaller and it won’t come with GPS and any form of independent mobile data connection.

As for the designs, sources claim that both smartwatches will come with full circular displays. The larger model is believed to be codenamed Angelfish, and it will look similar to the Moto 360 and the Second Edition LG Urbane LTE.

Angelfish is believed to have three physical buttons: a large circular crown button will be located on the right side of the body and it will be accompanied by two smaller circular buttons on either sides.

The second model is said to have been given the codename Swordfish. It’s described as looking similar to the Pebble Time Round minus the large screen bezel.

Unlike the Angelfish, Swordfish will only have one circular crown button on its right side. The button itself will look quite similar to the Apple Watch’s Digital Crown.

Angelfish is said to have a diameter of 43.5mm, while Swordfish will come in at 42mm.

The real significant feature that will be available on both the Angelfish and Swordfish is the integration of Google Assistant with support for contextual alerts.

Google Assistant is somewhat a successor to Google Now, as described by Engadget. The major difference between the two is that Assistant is much like a chatbot — it’s a lot more conversational instead of users simply hearing out user commands.

Google Assistant is also being positioned as a competitor to Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant that runs on the Echo speaker.

Since Google is building these new devices itself, it’s possible that Angelfish and Swordfish will come with other software features that’s not on other Android Wear smartwatches like new styles of watch faces and a quicker user interface.

Google is expected to release its new HTC-built Nexus smartphones this fall. It’s possible that Angelfish and Swordfish could also be under the Nexus brand.

Android Police has given this new information a confidence level of 9/10 stating that Google is currently in the prototyping process for both of the upcoming Android Wear devices.

The online news outlet also indicated that it already has confirmation of both the new Wear devices’ existence from multiple sources as well.

Still, there’s a possibility that Google may cancel one or even both of these projects, or they could both be delayed.
