Alphabet Inc.’s (GOOGL) Google Assistant is getting enhancements and it seems that the service will be able to efficiently compete with Amazon’s, Alexa and Apple Inc.’s, Siri. Google Assistant initially had a slow start but that is changing now thanks to the service gaining support from the IFTTT which works effortlessly with Google Home and the Pixel flagship of the company.
IFTTT will enable the users to connect with numerous web services, working as a connector, making Google Assistant useful. The Pixel flagship is ideal to test the assistant out; Google Assistant can now be added to the IFTTT account, which can then be controlled easily. The assistant will reply to question asked by the users through IFTTT channels. The AI service will understand trigger phrases and act on the chosen command by the users. However, users will have to wait for at least five to ten minutes for the assistant to work after it has been connected to the IFTTT.
Google Assistant is evidently following the footsteps of its competitors such as Amazon that has had IFTTT on board for over a year now. Personal assistants are being adapted by various tech companies, as the demand for the service has grown in the past few years.
The new integration of the IFTTT will help Google Home gain more popularity and sales, customers can pre-order the product from next week. Google Home has various 3rd party services and features and now more than 258 IFTTT channels, which will make interaction interesting and productive. Pixel owners can now make the best use of their personal assistant, by sending out tweets by voice, adding contacts via voice control and many other tasks without wasting time.
Google Assistant channel is compatible with Rachio, Scout Alarm, Philips Hue, Samsung Robot Vacuum, SmartThings, and Samsung Air Purifier. The most popular recipes include adding a task to Todoist, Post to Facebook by voice; send a note on Slack via voice and various others. The 258 channels now available for Google Assistant are Skype, LINE, Medium, tumblr, Pocket, Envoy, Dropbox, Google Drive, Github, and many others.
Google Assistant is still far behind it competitors such as Siri and Alexa but it is picking up the pace. Thus, this might be the time to try out the personal assistant and command away.
