Food Network Skill Launches on Alexa-Enabled Devices Such as Amazon Echo

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

Beginning today, just ask Alexa about any show or recipe on Food Network. The brand is the first culinary network to launch a skill on Alexa-enabled devices. Users of the voice-enabled devices Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Tap and Amazon Fire TV just need to enable the Food Network skill by saying “Alexa, enable the Food Network skill” to gain access to show information and scheduling, as well as recipes seen on air.

“Voice is emerging as a way for consumers to connect and interact with brands in a way that provides value in their lives, and this launch is a first step toward more utility-based services down the road as we integrate with Alexa,” said Liesel Kipp, vice president of product management for Scripps Networks Interactive, parent company of Food Network. “It’s just further proof that Food Network is the preeminent name in all things food, regardless of platform.”

Alexa recognizes a wide range of voice-enabled asks; consumers can make requests from Alexa such as:

  • “Alexa, what’s on Food Network right now?”
  • “Alexa, what’s on Food Network Friday night?”
  • “Alexa, what’s the next episode of Chopped about?”
  • “Alexa, when is Giada in Italy on TV?”
  • “Alexa, send me the recipes from the show I’m watching right now.”
  • “Alexa, send me the recipe I saw on The Pioneer Woman yesterday.”

“As the consumer experience evolves, it’s important that we super-serve our Food Network fans, meeting them anytime, anywhere they wish to engage with our brand as we continue to be the leader in food information, inspiration and entertainment,” said Henry Ahn, Scripps Networks’ president of content distribution and marketing.

Amazon Echo offers hands-free voice control for music, information, weather, timers, news, shopping lists, sports scores, smart home capabilities, audio books and more. And with Alexa skills, a growing number of powerful features are frequently being added by third parties, numbering more than 3,000 to date. Alexa skills include asking for local event info, streaming music, playing games, ordering a pizza — and now requesting recipes and show information from Food Network.
