Dixons Carphone partners with SSE for connected home service

Customers will be able to control their connected devices, purchase products, arrange installations and troubleshoot any technical or maintenance issues through an app

Dixons Carphone and energy provider SSE have partnered up to provide a one-stop platform to help customers manage their connected homes.

The platform, in the form of an app, is to be built and tested throughout the new year and will allow customers to get support on all of their appliances in the home from boilers to laptops and dishwashers to WiFi.

Customers will be able to control their connected devices, purchase products, arrange installations and troubleshoot any technical or maintenance issues through the app.

Existing customers of SSE and Carphone Dixons will be able to benefit first from the new service with more information on the deals available coming in the spring and the app hoped to be ready by the end of 2017.

Carphone Dixons’ Knowhow and honeyBee tech support and SSE’s engineers will enable the two companies to support their joint customer base of ten million households, using their 4,000-strong workforce in over 1,200 stores across the UK and Ireland.

Meeting customer needs

Dixons Carphone Deputy CEO Andrew Harrison said: “CurrysPCWorld and Knowhow are out delivering, installing and fixing products 365 days a year and our market leading honeyBee platform provides an easy way to monitor and control these devices, so we are incredibly excited to partner with SSE and extend our relationship with customers further into the home.”

SSE Managing Director of Retail Will Morris added: “Together we are developing a solution that isn’t just focused on launching the latest technology, but on meeting customers’ desire for a simple, flexible way to control, manage and maintain their homes.”
