CoWatch, the Alexa-enabled smartwatch, is now available

Earlier this year we got our hands on an early version of the CoWatch, an Android-powered smartwatch that incorporated Amazon’s Alexa as your personal assistant. iMCO, the company behind the CoWatch had planned to ship the device in June after its Indiegogo campaign ended, but after a delay the device is now officially available on Amazon (of course) for $279.

The CoWatch wasn’t the smoothest device when we had time with it back in April, but it was a pre-production version so kinks were to be expected. The 42mm watch was also exceptionally big, coming in at 12mm thick which isn’t great. The spec list for the stainless steel CoWatch is pretty middle of the road when it comes to smartwatches:

  • 1.39-inch 400 x 400 Super AMOLED display
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB of storage
  • 32 hours of battery life

While the specs aren’t anything special, what really stood out was the software, an Android-based operating system called Cronologics OS. The smartwatch OS was designed by former Google and Android engineers, is compatible with iOS and Android, and most of the actions are accessible within a few swipes.

It remains to be seen what kind of traction CoWatch can gain with both users and developers, but it’s the first notable fresh take on the smartwatch to hit shelves in a while, which makes it intriguing at least. You can purchase the CoWatch in either silver or black (which costs an extra $20 for some reason) on Amazon today.
