Boston Children’s Hospital app integrates AI to provide guidance on in-home medical questions
Boston Children’s Hospital released a new “skill” for Amazon’s Alexa called KidsMD which gives the voice-powered assistant the knowledge to offer simple medical advice to parents about symptoms and medications. Any Alexa-enabled device such as Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, and Amazon Fire TV can download the app. Once enabled, parents can ask Alexa about symptoms like fever, cough, rashes, and more to know when to call a doctor.
They can also tell Alexa their child’s weight and age to receive specific dosing guidelines for over-the-counter drugs. In order to guard family privacy, Alexa does not store any personal information. In the future, the hospital hopes to expand the app’s knowledge to include information about poisoning, allergies, and other conditions that confuse parents.
