NTT Communications to Address the 'Future of Content' at Capacity Latam 2017

NEW YORK & RIO DE JANEIRO–()–NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP services arm of Fortune Global 500 telecom leader NTT, announced today that Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of NTT Communications Global IP Network at NTT America, will participate in the keynote panel at this week’s Capacity Latam 2017 conference held in Rio de Janeiro.

Capacity Latam 2017 is the largest annual gathering of wholesale telecommunications service providers, carriers, vendors, subsea-cable and satellite companies in Latin America. The conference, that runs March 28 and 29, is expected to draw more than 500 industry leaders from over 150 companies.

Mr. Wheeler will be one of the panelists in the keynote discussion “Understanding the Requirements for Carrying the Content of the Future” on Tuesday, March 29th, at 9:50 a.m. local time. The panel will focus on the relationships between content providers and global carriers in Latin America and, at the same time, explore how new forms of content are influencing the development of new infrastructure.

“Most countries are making a concerted effort to expand broadband access while simultaneously seeking to increase innovation and technology options,” says Mr. Wheeler. “Still, the Latin American market remains varied and diverse, as different countries have individual needs, economic conditions, infrastructure and regulations.”

Despite uncertain economic conditions, the region continues to see growth in broadband access. Mr. Wheeler believes that growth is fueled by the continued modernization of infrastructure which, in turn, increases demand and attracts new players to the Internet ecosystem.

Industry research suggests that the telecom industry is a critical force for disruption and innovation across multiple technology industries, including content distribution, big data, cloud-based services and the Internet of Things (IoT).

“Collaboration between content providers and global carriers in Latin America, as throughout the world, can result in win-win opportunities for all parties involved,” adds Mr. Wheeler. “Leading wholesale providers such as NTT Com have the scale and resources to offer content providers and other Internet-centric businesses the capacity, expertise and global footprint their customers demand.”

With an extensive IP backbone that’s ranked as one of the world’s largest and most reliable, NTT Com is uniquely positioned to address the market needs and challenges in the region. Even before establishing a Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Sao Paulo in 2011, the company has been actively working with regional Latin American providers of Internet services (ISPs), content (ICPs) and Internet-centric businesses offering best-in-class connectivity to international markets through its leading Tier-1 Global IP Network.
