9/11 Tiles for America Coming Home to the Heart of NYC’s Greenwich Village for Good

Crowdfunding Effort Kicks off 9/11 Rededication Week Sunday, Sept. 4

NEW YORK, September 3,2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — After 15 years, the most important living memorial of its kind dedicated to the events of Sept. 11 and created by the people, the 9/11 ‘Tiles for America’ are coming home to the heart of the Village in New York City for good.

Thousands of tiles created by people from New York City Greenwich Village and all over the world in honor of those lost on 9/11 in a grassroots memorial

The site of this grass roots memorial is located at Mulry Square, the ‘gateway to the West Village’ and Lower Manhattan. The ‘Tiles for America’ (TFA) were created by family and friends in commemoration to those lost that day, and quickly grew to include visitors from all over the world who wished to pay homage as a testament that these lives mattered. The tiles were returned to their original location thanks to the efforts of New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) who designed a new structure there to accommodate this people’s memorial.  As ‘Tiles for America’ moves forward – marking a new day and a new voice, representing all people – everyone is invited to visit this sacred site honoring those lost, to reflect on what their lives have come to stand for, and to create a message for the future.

On the 15th anniversary of the historic tragedy, a rededication of this treasured memorial is planned during a weeklong tribute.  A crowdfunding effort will launch Sept. 4, 2016 as part of the rededication week tribute. Also on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 10:30 a.m., family and community members are welcome to gather at the TFA Village site to greet and join in the annual walk of remembrance honoring Father Mychal Judge, the beloved New York Fire Department Chaplain and the first and most famous victim of the World Trade Center attack. Walk participants include representatives from law enforcement and members of the FDNY’s Squad 18, who will be part of the rededication of the ‘Tiles for America’.

Because of the fragile nature of these precious tiles, efforts are underway through a crowdfunding campaign asking for individual donations of $9.11 to create a permanent in-door home and gallery. Here the thousands of handmade ceramic tiles of inspirational messages will be protected and surrounded by art, music, poetry and special projects inspired by events of 9/11. In partnership with the Temple of Understanding, a 501c3 non-profit foundation and a 56 year-old organization dedicated to education, leadership and inter faith tolerance amongst all people, the TFA’s goal is to provide an opportunity and a place to pay tribute to our history, and create ‘a time for action’  as we move forward in our lives.

It is a sad but true reality that ongoing attacks continue to occur all too often somewhere in our world. With New York’s Freedom Tower soaring in the background, the 9/11 ‘Tiles for America’ memorial marks a moment in time when the world stood together. As we honor the past with the 911 ‘Tiles for America’ and envision the future, this living memorial stands now as a time for action gateway to peace for all humanity and for generations to come. Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate application components: the software embedded in the device, the back-end service, and the mobile application for the end user’s controls. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target –…
