Amazon Echo and other Alexa-powered devices could previously reorder items that you had already bought on Amazon, but you can now ask the virtual assistant to order pretty much anything that’s available through Amazon Prime.
The previously limited functionality assumed you were just shopping for items that you might order again and again, like toilet paper, but now you can ask the virtual assistant to buy millions of items as long as they’re eligible for Prime’s unlimited two-day shipping. Need a duct tape? Just say “Alexa, order duct tape,” and the virtual assistant will recommend an item. Then you confirm whether or not you want to buy it.
It’s not just limited to common household items; I asked Alexa to order The Great Gatsby and it instantly recommended a common paperback edition—and after I declined, it suggested I might like the DVD instead. No thanks, Alexa. Amazon says they’re continuing to add items every day. You can try it out now with Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Tap, and compatible versions of Fire TV.
