Telstra launches hybrid Gateway Frontier to ensure you're always connected at home

Telstra has unveiled an Australian-first internet solution that combines its fixed broadband and 4G mobile network into a single device – the Telstra Gateway Frontier – to ensure customers are always connected.

The Telstra Gateway Frontier uses hybrid technology so customers will always have a way to connect if services are disrupted, if they are moving or swapping to a new service.

As soon as the device is powered up it will connect to Telstra’s 4G network so new customers can connect to the internet right away until their fixed services are installed.

And if fixed services are disrupted or there is planned maintenance, the Telstra Gateway Frontier automatically switches to Telstra’s 4G network.

The Telstra Gateway Frontier has 802.11ac wireless technology onboard and can connect up to 20 devices at the same time.

This product fits into the Telstra 2020 strategy which will see the company investing in more converged products across fixed and mobile.

The device is available now to customers on ADSL, cable and the NBN and will work on Telstra 4G within coverage areas with 4G speeds limited to 6Mbps (down) and 1Mbps (up).

“We know home internet is central to how our customers access entertainment, organise their lives and connect to the world,” Telstra Executive Director of Home and Business Products, Stuart Bird, said.

“Many customers have told us being without a home broadband service for even one hour is disruptive so we are introducing a solution that enables them to stay connected to the things they love to do online within minutes of plugging their home gateway in.”

“By bringing together the best of our mobile and home networks, families can be confident we will keep them connected so they can continue to access entertainment, work from home and keep in touch online.

“And as our customers adopt more smart home technologies, staying online becomes even more integral as households connect to services such as remote monitoring, in-home voice assistants and home automation.”

Until March 27, new and existing customers can purchase the Telstra Gateway Frontier for $216 outright or for $9 per month on a 24-month contract.
