Three tech startups look to shake up the floral industry with apps, higher quality and eco-friendly stems that spotlight local florists. Jefferson Graham reports from Manhattan Beach, California.
LOS ANGELES — A new iPhone won’t be out until September, but that hasn’t stopped analysts from weighing in on new features.
Here’s a look back at the biggest tech headlines of the week. We begin with that new iPhone, one that could come in three different models, have wireless charging, an OLED display screen and cost over $1,000.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. The first was announced in January, 2007 and released in June of that year, before Apple moved to a September schedule.
In other phone news, Samsung is expected to update its Galaxy line with a new model in the spring that has a curved screen, and the South Korean company’s answer to Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, the Google assistant and Amazon’s Alexa, named Bixby, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
Our Ed Baig says Bixby has got to be an improvement over Samsung’s existing “(and frankly underwhelming)” S-Voice feature. We look forward to asking Bixby all sorts of crazy questions, and wonder how much “My Favorite Martian,” and “The Incredible Hulk” trivia it can answer. (Kids–ask your parents for the reference.)
In the world of social media, Snapchat said it signed a deal with A&E Networks to begin producing short-form TV shows for the app from the A&E, History and Lifetime channels.
Twitter announced disappointing results that sent its stock tumbling. Despite prominent user Donald Trump’s frequent activity, Twitter missed Wall Street estimates on revenue in the fourth quarter, marking the 10th straight quarter of slowing revenue growth.
Twitter also reported a net loss of $167.1 million and gave a first quarter forecast that fell short of what Wall Street had expected.
Finally, ICYMI, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and ordering could be very different for you this year, with online florists offering eco-friendly, farm fresh flowers aimed at millennials.
