PLDT, Inc., through its consumer business unit PLDT HOME, has partnered with 15 global and local brands engaged in the retail and entertainment business in order to provide consumers with wider access to content providers.
The telco giant signed partnerships with ABS-CBN Corp.’s iWant TV, Netflix, Amazon, Alcatel, Sony, D Link, Huawei, Microsoft, iflix, Roku, Inc., Cignal, Family Zone, Fox, Intel and PayMaya.
Asked if PLDT also plans to partner with GMA Network, Inc. after its deal with ABS-CBN, Mr. Pangilinan said there are none so far.
“For now, GMA has no equivalent service similar to iWant TV. As you know, we have several initiatives with GMA 7 about putting their content on our screens and I think the principal discussion with them is we need to put their content in more than one channel with Cignal,” he said.
In a statement, PLDT First Vice-President and Head of Home Operations Oscar A. Reyes, Jr. said that the partnerships are in line with its “Smart Home” concept, and address concerns on connectivity, peace of mind, entertainment, and convergence and automation.
“The connected home was our vision of the modern Filipino home wherein families are connected, entertained and secured with the help of digital innovations powered by PLDT HOME. It was the starting point of our journey. In response to the fast-changing digital needs of Filipino families, we are fortifying that vision with the launch of PLDT’s Smart Home,” Mr. Reyes said.
