South Korea’s leading telecommunications company KT Corp. unveiled a TV set-top box equipped with voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) system, the company said at a press conference at KT Square in Seoul on Tuesday.
Its voice assistant GiGa Genie allows users to listen to music, manage schedules, get traffic information and control other Internet-connected appliances through speech-recognition assistance. It goes beyond existing voice-activated speaker as users can see what they command on TV screen. It is equipped with natural language processing and deep-learning technologies that will increase the level of accuracy as users use the service more frequently.
The GiGa Genie will provide media service linked to the company’s Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service Olleh TV and music streaming service Genie Music, AI-based home service, Internet-connected home appliances controlling service and communication service enabling voice and video calls.
The company has partnered with the global audio equipment provider Harman Kardon to offer high quality media services. Harman Kardon’s high-power speaker installed in GiGa Genie will stream high quality sound.
The set-top box also allows users to make food delivery orders and hail taxi through taxi-hailing app Kakao Taxi. If the user says ‘I want to eat chicken’ to the device, it would present chicken stores around the user’s home based on location information and make a phone call directly to the store. It also offers bus-tracking information.
Users can make voice commands through the device that is linked to Internet of Things-based home appliances. The full HD six million pixel camera featuring face detection function enables video calls as well.
