Hong Kong Electronics Fair Building on VR, Startups

The Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) and International ICT Expo is gearing up for another showcase of the latest electronic products and cutting-edge ICT solution to global buyers, including a focus on startups, VR, and Connected Home.

Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the growing show has earned the territories largest merchandise export earner, reaching $271.6 billion in 2016.

“The Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) is the largest spring electronics fair in Asia,” Benjamin Chau, Deputy Executive Director, HKTDC. “Together with the concurrent International ICT Expo, this is an effective platform for exhibitors to present their new products and solutions to buyers, which creates abundant trading opportunities for crossover business activities.”

The show’s foundation will build off past success, host a series of seminars, and debute two new zones for Startups and Virtual Reality. Hall of Fame will return, including 570 leading international brands such as Bigben, Desay, GP, HKC, Hubble, Intel, Motorola, and Polaroid.

Launching Startups

Now, more than ever, startups are making waves across the world. The Spring Electronics Fair focus on giving the emerging market a voice should bring an interesting element considering how diverse the partners attending are. Located at Hall 3F-G Concourse, the Startup zone will have two fairs, allowing investors to interact and explore partnership opportunities with some of the most innovate products in the world.

The trade show will also feature a series of themed events to present ideas and even pitch solutions, products, and ideas to potential investors. This also includes Startup Mentoring sessions for successful entrepreneurs to share their opinions and experiences.

Eye on a VR Future

Debuting in a new Tech Hall, the Spring Electronics Fair will be clustering four thematic zones including the inaugural Virtual Reality zone alongside Connected Home, Robotics & Unmanned Tech and Wearables.

These key elements are focused after the success of the 2016 Autumn Edition’s VR zone. An independent survey found that over 70% of buyers and exhibitors believed that the market potential and demand for VR and AR devices would be ‘promising’ or ‘very promising’ through the next two years.

IoT will make a splash in the Connected Home Zone while drones, scooters, and robots will populate the Robotics & Unmanned Tech zone. Wearable Electronics zone will feature the latest in both smart watches and smart wristbands, that feature health care and sports monitoring functions.

ICT Solutions for Enhancing Competitiveness

One of the signature events of the “International IT Fest 2017,” the International ICT Expo will also run concurrently with the Spring Electronics Fair, offering a series of zones for business visitors looking for the solutions suitable for their companies.

Zones details are:

  • e-Commerce zone: Showcases cyber security, e-commerce platform, e-payment, logistics, O2O business solutions and IT integration.
  • Retail Technologies zone: Features business improvement solutions which include retail and payment technologies.
  • Enterprise Solutions zone: Presents software solutions for the corporate world enabling a company to upgrade internal processes and everyday operations.
  • Home-grown Innovation zone: Features the latest technologies developed by some local companies and institutions.
  • SME IT Clinic: Offering professional consultation services on ICT systems and solutions to help SMEs enhance business efficiency.
  • Other themed zones include Digital Infrastructure, Digital Marketing and Smart Devices & Accessories and more.

Seminars including sharing sessions that cover Startups, e-Commerce & FinTech, Disruptive Technology, and Career Development.

The ICT Expo will also give tertiary students an opportunity to attend on the last day, providing ICT career development and job opportunities for the first time.
