Google is ready to take on Apple’s Siri as the company launched Google Assistant for Android Nougat and Marshmallow OS-powered smartphones. Five months back, Google launched assistant for Pixel smartphones and now the company has expanded the coverage for its digital assistant. As Google’s operating system is used on much higher number of smartphones compared to Apple’s iOS, Google Assistant will soon move ahead of Apple’s Siri in terms of number of users.
LG G6 will be the first non-pixel smartphone to be powered by Google Assistant. The smart digital assistant answers queries, completes many tasks and plays music. Personal assistants have been gaining importance in technology sector with Amazon’s Alexa bringing them to focus with Alexa-powered Amazon Echo. Apple’s Siri has been performing many interesting tasks and users are still surprised by its ever-improving intelligence database.
Android-powered smartphones account for nearly 85 percent of smartphone segment. Using ‘Ok Google’ command, users will be able to invoke the personal assistant.
At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, many technology companies are expected to announce new gadgets. Samsung, LG, Huawei and Sony are mainly on radar of technology experts and reporters.
The official announcement on Google Assistant made by Google informed, “The Google Assistant will automatically come to eligible Android phones running Nougat and Marshmallow with Google Play Services. You’ll also see the Google Assistant on some newly announced partner devices, including the LG G6.”
Gummi Hafsteinsson, Google Product Lead for Google Assistant said, “The Assistant is already available on Pixel, Google Home, Google Allo and Android Wear. Now we’re bringing it to even more people. Starting this week, the Google Assistant is coming to smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.”
