Google has revealed that it will be rolling out the Google Assistant to more Android devices beginning this week. Devices currently on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow and 7.0 Nougat will be receiving an OTA update through Google Play Services soon.
“The Google Assistant will begin rolling out this week to English users in the U.S., followed by English in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as German speakers in Germany. We’ll continue to add more languages over the coming year,” stated Google.
According to Google, this new AI will have a “conversational” interface and it will be able to do more as well as control your smart home devices.
Aside that, users will be able to access the assistant by long-pressing the home button rather than looking for the microphone button on the home screen or crossing your fingers and hoping that the device will respond to your “OK Google” prompt.
There is still no clear information on whether this update will arrive to all devices on Marshmallow and Nougat except for Google saying that it’ll be coming to “eligible devices.”
But, the company also states that, “With this update, hundreds of millions of Android users will now be able to try out the Google Assistant.”
