We’re bringing you the funk this week with the Internationale Funkausstellung show in Berlin. Better known by its acronym IFA, Tom Warren, Vlad Savov, James Vincent, Max Jeffrey, and Vjeran Pavic will be bringing you all the latest gadgets and tech from Europe’s biggest electronics exhibition. Sony’s Xperia X Compact looks likely to make an appearance, a device that’ll fill the small / compact void in your life and the Android ecosystem. We’re also expecting to see the Gear S3 for the first time, Samsung’s followup to one of our favorite smartwatches, the Gear S2. Huawei will certainly try to delight us, as will Lenovo and Asus who always show up in force. If you like gadgets then this is your week.
Sonos is also hosting an event on Tuesday, August 30th. We’re not expecting any new hardware but we do expect to hear more about controlling Sonos speakers using only your voice. The addition of voice controls was first announced in a company blog post back in March that praised Amazon’s Alexa voice service. A source speaking to Business Insider says that Sonos will also announce new hooks that’ll make it easier for third-party apps to integrate with Sonos systems. Right now, you have to use the somewhat awkward Sonos app to play music through the company’s speaker. That could change on Tuesday, allowing Sonos owners to control their music without ever having to leave the native apps from Spotify or Apple Music, for example.
We’ll also be publishing our Fall Movie Preview this week. Let’s hope for better films than what we’ve seen recently, leading us to name a drone ad this year’s summer blockbuster.
