AutoMobility LA This Week

SAP Connected Parking
SAP announced the availability of the SAP Connected Parking solution, new Internet of Things (IoT) software to help parking management firms take advantage of the cloud, smart devices and Big Data technologies. SAP Connected Parking offers parking providers a digital backbone to consolidate parking space availability across locations, reserve parking spaces, publish real-time status of parking space and improve use, visibility and efficiency. Technology partners include DESIGNA Verkehrsleittechnik GmbH, which has signed an agreement to integrate the solution with its parking management systems and kiosks, and Bosch Service Solutions, which recently announced integration with the Bosch Secure Truck Parking service.
Analog Devices Combo Sensors
Analog Devices, Inc. introduced the fully integrated ADXC150x series of inertial combo sensors that brings together best-in-class reliability and accuracy with industry leading shock and vibration immunity at a reduced footprint. The integration of up to four degrees of freedom in a single device allows system designers to reduce the size of the electronic control unit (ECU) required in today’s automotive safety systems.
The ADXC150x combo sensor family overcomes the substantial challenges associated with integrating an automotive-grade gyroscope and accelerometer in a single package.
New ADAS SoC from TI
Texas Instruments (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN) is extending its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and autonomous vehicle System-on-Chip (SoC) portfolio, with the availability of a new development board and a rapidly growing ecosystem
RT-RK, an embedded services and product development company globally recognized for their digital signal processing software development, along with TI are announcing the availability of the RT-RK Alpha development board. Using the TDAx SOC, the development board supports development of ADAS applications such as advanced warning systems, active control systems and semi-autonomous driving. In addition, customers using the RT-RK have access to a broad TDAx SOC ecosystem to enable quick time to market with TDAx-based hardware and software solutions.
Autolive Joins ADAS&ME
Autoliv, Inc. joins international research program about human user’s interaction with autonomous vehicles. The program, called ADAS&ME, involves 30 partners from 11 different countries and is led by Sweden’s National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI).
Civil Maps Wins
Civil Maps, a software provider for crowdsourcing continental scale 3D maps for fully autonomous machines, today announced that it has been named a 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES®) Innovation Award Honoree in the Vehicle Intelligence category for its localization and augmented reality (AR) maps technology. The award represents recognition from the Consumer Technology Association for outstanding design and engineering in innovative consumer technology products. Honorees are selected by a panel of consumer technology designers, engineers and members of the media.
Machina Research bought by Gartner
As of 9th November 2016 Machina Research has been acquired by Gartner, the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company.
Over the last 6 years Machina Research has assembled a market-leading set of analysts and research focused on the Internet of Things. Gartner has recognised the magnificent efforts that Machina Research has made to set the agenda in IoT market analysis. Gartner has acquired Machina Research as part of its strategy of investing further in this technology area. Both companies recognise the tremendous synergy and additional value that they can deliver as the market leaders in IoT research.
Machina Research’s analyst team will transition in its entirety to Gartner.
Continental AI Research & CES Win
Continental and the University of Oxford are now conducting joint research in the field of artificial intelligence. The partnership between Continental and the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford will focus on the possible uses and development of artificial intelligence algorithms, which have the potential to further enhance future mobility applications. These deep-learning algorithms have the potential to realise highly-reliable visual object detection and human–machine dialog in the future. The first phase of the envisaged three-year partnership began in early November 2016 and includes new postdoctoral research positions at Oxford. There are plans to extend the research scope and the time frame at a later date.
Continental also announced that is has been named a CES 2017 Innovation Awards Honoree in the Vehicle Intelligence category for its Short Range Radar with Trailer Merge Assist and Trailer Length Detection technology.
Continental’s state-of-the-art Short Range Radar with Trailer Merge Assist and Trailer Length Detection is a “black box” sensor mounted in the rear/side area of the vehicle. The radar uses intelligent sensing with a new software feature allowing for the blind spot detection to be enhanced and extended by sophisticated object tracking, measurement and length detection algorithms allowing for the extended warning.
Traffiware V2I Demo in Dallas
Traffic engineers and city officials in the Dallas area experienced connected vehicle applications that demonstrate Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) applications or “talking intersections.”
Trafficware’s ATMS.now Transportation Management System and Connected Vehicle Module currently installed in the City of Frisco is streaming real-time system and intersection data to technology leaders Traffic Technology Services, Inc. (TTS) and Audi.
Spearheaded by the North Central Texas Council of Governments and in cooperation with the City of Frisco, live vehicle demonstrations of the technology were part of the Texas Chapter of Intelligent Transportation Society’s 2016 annual meeting being held in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
The demonstration showcased technology that has been in development for almost a decade and is the first to market of its kind. TTS delivers the SAE J2735 SPaT and MAP messages to customers, who then deliver the selected information to the vehicle using cellular communications.
INRIX Fuels Parking & Fuel Finding for Porsche Panamera
INRIX, announced that its Off-Street Parking and Fuel services will be soon available in the all-new Porsche Panamera vehicles in Europe and North America. Drivers will be able to easily find, compare and navigate to available off-street parking spaces, as well as search for and drive to the lowest fuel prices nearby.
Porsche will now allow drivers to access dynamic off-street parking information, including routes to the closest garage locations, detailed rates, amenities, restrictions and real-time occupancy. INRIX Parking offers access to the world’s most comprehensive and accurate parking database that includes more than 29 million spaces in over 90,000 locations spanning 4,000 cities in 65 countries. In fact, SBD, a global automotive technology research firm, recently concluded that INRIX was the “clear winner” in an independent off-street parking study that looked at key parking attributes in Germany and the U.S.
INRIX Fuel allows drivers to search for nearby stations and view dynamic pricing to find their preferred fuel at the lowest price.
Valeo Buys Half of CloudeMade
Valeo announced that it bough a 50% stake in CloudMade. CloudMade is a pioneering start-up in machine learning and artificial intelligence, with a focus on designing applications for the car industry. Valeo’s investment in the company will provide it with the financial and technological resources it needs to fully achieve its development.
MIT Researches Ride Sharing for Uber
MIT’s Senseable City Lab and the transportation company Uber are launching a research initiative to explore how car- and ride-sharing networks could reshape the future of urban mobility. This initiative will explore new mobility paradigms for the 21st century, building on both parties’ data and analytics strengths. This collaboration will study mobility and the ability to share rides on a global scale.
