With all the talk surrounding Apple and its latest incarnation, the iPhone 7, we’re quick to ignore the other odds and ends that come popping out of Apple’s treasure chest. One interesting nugget has been Apple’s express desire to change the way we run our homes. With the Home app users can control a vast array of connected appliances, or “Homekit accessories,” from the comfort of their smartphone.
So if your home is already fitted with connected devices you’ll be able to run each and every one of them by speaking through your phone. Among the many other things users can control via the Home app are lighting settings, heating systems, air conditioning, locks and security and basic kitchen appliances. In other words, Apple proposes a simple way to “set up, manage and control your home.”
Where does this go from here? Well, Apple aficionados more than familiar with the Siri platform will be all the same intrigued to find out that Ms. Siri gets a promotion. The voice operated Home app links through the Siri platform and the user can group functions accordingly or simply control settings in the home one by one. And most impressively, the Home app allows for control from remote locations.
Apple officially lifts the lid on the new Home app this fall. It will be available for all recent iPhones, going back to the iPhone 5, with an option for running the app through Apple TV.
