Amazon Echo's Smart Speaker, Alexa Creating Havoc To Residents

The Amazon Echo’s smart speaker is likely to be dominated by the artificial intelligence space this year. The smart home device that has proven to be a successful product is powered by Alexa, a personal digital assistant of Amazon.  

Alexa is considered to be capable of performing functions at wide range such as controlling connected devices and answering questions. It also performs many other similar functions making it an easy task for the users. However, the device is said to be problematic for homes with residents sharing similar name Alexa, reported Tech Times.

The digital personal assistants developed by most of the companies have named the devices with human names. Google is regarded by Apple and Microsoft as their personal digital assistant, while Alexa, Siri, and Cortana named for the digital assistant device for Amazon.  

As per the reports by Wall Street Journal, Alexa is considered as a more common name than Siri and Cortana. However, the name was ranked 39^th position in the United States among the most popular names in 2016, which makes it a more likely to be shared by some of the residents and the digital assistant device Amazon Echo, as per Tech Stunt.

Alexa is apparently the default voice command for the device Amazon Echo, which shoots up the problem for the smart speaker as it considers the command immediately and responds to it. There were reports which claimed that some families had trouble using Amazon Echo at home, as they had people living in their house with the same name.    

One of the residents from Nevada named Alexa Jones shared her experience that she had faced the crisis of being treated like the Echo. As she shares the same name, her relatives would summon her in the similar manner, which started for fun but now it is annoying for her.

The individuals who share the same name Alexa are not the only people show are facing the issue. The Amazon Echo which is a wake up summon for Alexa also mistakenly considers names like Alex and Alexis creating havoc for the users.
