Amazon is spicing things up ahead of its big Prime Day sale on July 11, and is now offering some Echo-exclusive deals for those who shop via Alexa.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, here’s the deal. First off, Alexa is Amazon’s virtual assistant and one of the power features of Amazon Echo. It can handle a number of tasks you give through voice commands, such as tell you the weather forecast, adjust your Nest thermostat or some other thing.
More recently, Alexa got the ability to help you shop, allowing users to order millions of items off Amazon through voice commands. Amazon now wants to remind users that Alexa can be a useful shopping tool.
To encourage more customers to leverage the power of Alexa and the convenience of voice commands while shopping on Amazon, the retail giant is now offering a few Echo-exclusive deals with discounts for ordering by voice.
More specifically, Amazon is shaving $10 off an order of at least $20 made through Alexa. The retailer doesn’t have a huge selection of items for this deal, but its effort is still noteworthy and should convince more shoppers to try Alexa’s shopping assistant skills.
The Amazon Tap, for instance, is now on sale at $50.99 off, which is quite a good price for the more portable version of Echo. A camera-equipped quadcopter is now $14.98 off, a Cuisinart 5-in-1 Griddler is $34.99 off, and a number of other deals will become available shortly. Add that $10 discount to the already lower price and your Alexa purchase could net you significant savings.
To place an Amazon order through Alexa, simply tell the assistant to order the item you want. For instance, you can say “Alexa, order an Amazon Tap.” Alexa will then tell you how much it costs after the discount, and ask you to confirm your order. To confirm and complete the order, just say “yes.”
The process is pretty straightforward and Alexa can help you save time. Of course, if you want to check a product’s specs, reviews and other such info you’d still want to access the site and check it out, but if you already know what you want, Alexa can make it really easy to order.
We’re looking forward to seeing what other deals will join the list of discounted products for Alexa Prime Day shoppers, and we’ll let you know as soon as Amazon adds more options.
