ABBA Logic Selects Echelon Corp. Embedded Industrial Internet of Things Solutions for Security …

SANTA CLARA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–

Echelon Corporation (ELON) today announced that ABBA Logic, a supplier to security integrators, has introduced a revolutionary upgrade to its line of access control products based on the latest Echelon embedded IIoT solutions. Echelon’s 6050 processors enabled ABBA Logic to increase the speed, simplify the design, improve IP connectivity and reduce the size and manufacturing costs of its new control panels. The panels work with the company’s sophisticated managed automation security controls (MASC) HMI software to provide integrated security and building control solutions. Together this makes ABBA Logic’s controls extremely competitive and accessible to more customers in a variety of secure facilities.

ABBA Logic’s unique combination of access control and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) provide security integrators with off-the-shelf customizable solutions that can be used with a variety of software front ends without a large service commitment. Applications include correctional facilities, police stations, courthouses, airports, schools and other facilities that require high levels of secure access. Partnering with Echelon, ABBA Logic has been able to create extensible IP network-based solutions that have provided value for years, growing along with the company’s customers.

Using Echelon’s new technology, ABBA Logic now is able to reduce the number of processors required in their devices while increasing the number of secure physical access points that can be controlled by one controller. In addition, with the advanced distributed processing capabilities of the 6050, more access points can be controlled on a single cable run.

Rick Ashmus, owner of ABBA Logic comments, “We use Echelon’s products to create a subnet off the customers’ network. We also dropped the number of processors needed per control panel from four down to two. This increased the speed of operations, and we saw a 50 percent reduction in the overall cost of the product.” Ashmus goes on to state, “The MAC-4Rx was started with the goal of creating a two-door controller, but we ended up with a four-door controller. With the new processor we also plan on creating a single door controller that can be located at the door to eliminate all the home run wiring. By combining Echelon’s flexible 6050 processors we can harness IP connectivity in a single product to deliver a superior experience.”

IT directors in secure facilities note that ABBA Logic solutions support their needs for connectivity between buildings and areas of control and allowing peer-to-peer functionality via preferred IP standards. The network architecture and asynchronous communications afforded by the Echelon platform simplify installation and improve performance. There is no need for extensive home run wiring, as with some other systems, or polling for status, which adds overhead and can result in latency.

ABBA Logic has partnered with Echelon since 1999. In addition to door control, the company can integrate cameras, intercoms, fans, lighting, televisions and telephones.
