Google Pixel and Pixel XL were released on October 20, 2016. The price for Pixel starts at about $650 while the Pixel XL is sold at $770. There is not much difference between the two phones beside their size and price. Pixel XL has a slight larger battery-life than Pixel, which could last around 13 hours.
One of the phone’s highlighted features is the new Google Assistant. It is an AI that Google has developed that is kind of similar to Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana and Amazon’s Alexa. But according to Seattle Times, the Google Assistant is different in such a way that notifies the user of the daily weather updates and news. There is also a review from CNET stating that talking to Google Assistant seems natural. It is like the user and the AI are somewhat chatting.
Another feature highlighted by most reviews is the phone’s camera. CNET even said that it is better than Apple’s iPhone 7 in terms of performance and image quality. Pixel has installed what Google called as HDR+ and this technology allows multiple photos to blend.
The HDR+ enables the camera to capture photos with emphasized shadows and highlights or the image’s dynamic range. HDR+ makes sure that images with highlights won’t just come off the photos as whitewash, which is the common problem for people who take photos “against the light”.
Even though it is not waterproof and even if it cannot increase its storage capacity with a memory card but unlike iPhone 7, it has a phone jack and unlike Galaxy Note 7, it doesn’t burn up.
