Now, the company is casting aside the Nexus name in favor of Pixel, a brand that Osterloh said has “always represented the best of hardware and software designed by Google”. Currently, Verizon Wireless is the only U.S. carrier to offer new Google smartphones.
The latest version of the Android operating system, Nougat 7.1 was hardly cited at Google’s hardware event this week. This smart virtual helper is Google’s reaction to Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, and Amazon’s Alexa.
The are coming, and they’re even being sold through a carrier: Verizon. In other words Google is providing the security update to both the Pixel and Verizon. With an excellent camera experience to boot, these could be the best devices that Google has ever put their name to.
Only two days have passed since Google officially announced the new Pixel smartphone, but it isn’t holding back at all in advertising these new devices.
Future Android system updates will still come from Google, but it will be ultimately Verizon that will push them to Pixel owners who’ve purchased their phones from the carrier. Powering the phones are the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB of RAM alongside.

The Pixel camera comes with unlimited full-size storage on Google Photos.
The Google Pixel and Pixel XL are the first smartphones to feature a built-in Google Assistant.
Android 7.1 will takeoff as a Developer Preview later this month.
Also, while the new smartphones were launched in multiple color options including Very Silver and Quite Black, and the Really Blue limited variant will not be released in India.
