Siri, the voice-activated personal assistant on Apple hand-held devices like the iPhone and iPad will soon be able to order pizza for you, or check your bank balance or call a cab for you, and help you in other ways Siri could not until now.
On Monday Apple announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that it will install new software to enable Siri to keep up with the other high-tech Joneses like Amazon. The new software will allow Siri to keep pace with virtual assistants from Amazon.com Inc. and Alphabet Inc’s Google.
Apple officials said the new software for Siri will allow programmers to build the voice-activated Siri into their apps.
This year’s WWDC, always an important event in the business and tech worlds, has taken on greater importance as Apple attempts to offset a slowdown in iPhone sales by increasing its software sales.
Voice-activated personal assistants like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa are playing growing roles in how consumers operate their digital lives.
