Google Home Support Comes To August Smart Lock

Big news from the world of smart-home devices this week. August, makers of smart locks, doorbell cams and accessories, announced this week the addition of support for the Google Assistant to the 1st and 2nd generation August Smart Locks.

Currently, the integration with Google Assistant and the Google Home smart speaker will allow users to lock their door as well as ask if the door is locked. According to Jason Johnson, CEO of August Home, Inc, the unlocking function is in the works.

Voice control continues to be a significant driver of smart home adoption and the Google Assistant on Google Home is a key partner in delivering a great user experience. Today users can lock and check the status of their lock using the Google Assistant. We are also working with the Google team to develop a safe and secure way to allow unlocking via Google Assistant.

The inclusion of August locks is great news for Google Home users as more partners are being added to the list of compatible smart devices. For August Home Inc. it means some bragging rights as they have become the first of its kind to support the big three; Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Amazon’s Alexa.

August Smart Locks work via BlueTooth and require the August Connect Wifi Bridge to communicate with Google Home. Locks and other August products can be purchased from Amazon, Best Buy, Target and August.com.
