Earlier this month we learned that Pebble was back on Kickstarter once again, introducing three new products, the Pebble 2, Pebble Time 2, and the Pebble Core. While all three devices look great, it is the Pebble Core that arguably stands out the most.
For those that aren’t aware, the Core is a GPS- and 3G-connected wearable that clips on and can track fitness data, with compatibility for a variety of services including Google Fit. It is aided in this task by being water resistant up to 30 meters, so swimming can be at the core of your routine. Also, as is customary to Pebble devices, the battery life is excellent (considering this is a GPS device) at an estimated 9 hours of use. When the battery gets low, in addition to micro USB, there will be a wireless charging pad for purchase. But the real trick up the Core’s sleeve is that it is apparently getting Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant integration!
With Alexa onboard, you can leave your phone at home and have instant access to Spotify as well as other services that are part of Alexa’s ever-growing number of skills
When it was announced, we knew the Core would be able to capture voice notes and do a few other voice-driven tasks, but we’re excited to learn that Alexa support is baked in as well. With Alexa onboard, you can leave your phone at home and have instant access to Spotify as well as other services that are part of Alexa’s ever-growing number of skills including: news, weather, fitness, and the ability to control your smart home devices. You can also ask Alexa for information on the fly, and, as you’d expect, you can use it to shop for things on Amazon.
The Pebble Core is currently available on Kickstarter for $69 and is expected to ship out in January 2017. What do you think of the Pebble Core and its addition of Alexa support; is it the device you have always dreamed of, or are you already invested in a different voice assistant?
