As Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) subsidiary, Google continues to tweak its newly launched Google Home device, speculation reveals that the Internet-connected speaker has received a new update. Now, owners of the Google Home speaker can control their Honeywell and Belkin’s WeMo line smart-appliances with help from the tech giant’s virtual assistant, Google Assistant.
Following the speaker’s debut in November 2016, it is evident that Google is still working on incorporating a range of features into the device. This is mainly due to the company’s vision of making Google Home the ideal choice for controlling users’ smart homes. Considering that many other tech rivals like Amazon and Apple are also determined to enter into smart-markets, Google’s actions seemed somewhat inevitable.
Subsequently, the company has also unveiled compatibility for a range of other smart devices with its speaker in the past. Some of these include smart-appliances from companies Nest, Philips Hue and Samsung SmartThings.
Now, with the latest integration, users can conveniently control a range of their WeMo and Honeywell smart-devices; including smart-lights, thermostats, and more. We believe that such a feature will greatly help the tech giant to target a larger market of buyers. This is mainly due to the fact that Amazon has managed to increase expectations of customers in markets with the launch of its own Amazon Echo speaker in 2014.
The Echo speaker’s capabilities are evidently more diverse than Google Home; supporting more than 7,000 “skills.” These skills enable users to work with third party services, order Dominos, receive weather and traffic updates, or simply update their grocery lists. By raising the bar so high for users, it is evident that Google’s integration of the new feature has mainly occurred keeping Echo’s capabilities in mind.
However, considering that the Google Home device rolled out somewhat recently as compared to the Echo, we believe that the tech giant’s Bluetooth speaker has immense potential to excel in markets in the subsequent future. With the company’s determination to continue ramping up on its offerings, there are very high chances that the Google Home device will continuously be perfected to the core in order to ensure that 2017 is a year where the device incurs high sales and appreciation from its user base.
