We’ve seen a lot of great, affordable options to watch online content on TV this year, so we’ve made up a list of the best TV streaming devices of 2016.
In today’s modern age, there’s no shortage of options to stream online content on a TV. A smart TV may have apps of its own, game systems or Blu-ray players may add more options, but there are also more affordable solutions.
If you don’t have a smart TV, gaming system with built-in streaming services or Blu-ray player, you can go for a dedicated TV streaming device to do the trick. Most streamers carry budget-friendly price tags and allow customers to pair their non-smart TV with various local or online media streaming services.
Roku Ultra
At the more expensive end of the market, the Roku Ultra allows users to enjoy popular services such as Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube and more, complete with 4K content. The Roku Ultra costs $119.99 on Amazon for now, with a $10 discount.
The device comes with a neat remote that includes voice search, as well as an audio jack for private listening.
If you’re not that keen on 4K streaming and would rather get a more affordable device, there are great options on the cheap too.
Best Budget TV Streaming Devices
The Chromecast 2 is high up on the list of best TV streaming devices on a budget, as it costs just $35. For that price, the gadget enables users to stream movies, TV shows, music or even browser pages, offering plenty of versatility for its price point.
The device is also compatible with Google Home, allowing users to utter voice commands for more convenience. If, on the other hand, you prefer a Chromecast with a side of 4K, you can get the more expensive Chromecast Ultra for $69.
If Google’s not your go-to brand, both Amazon and Roku offer budget TV streaming sticks that directly compete with the Google Chromecast. The Roku Express, for instance, costs just $29 and it’s just as capable. The Amazon Fire TV Stick, meanwhile, costs $39.99 and it also works with Amazon Alexa, the company’s voice-controlled assistant. For those who already have the Amazon Echo or Echo Dot smart speakers, the Fire TV Stick could be a great addition.
Power And Value Combined
If you’re not just looking for the cheapest options, but something more robust, Amazon and Nvidia have good options without breaking the bank. The Amazon Fire TV may be an excellent fit for Amazon prime members who want to enjoy Amazon Instant Video and search for content via voice commands. With Google’s Chromecast, for instance, the only way to watch Amazon Instant Video on a TV is to cast a browser tab. The Amazon Fire TV costs $89.99 and it’s a solid choice for Amazon Prime subscribers.
Android TV
Lastly, the Nvidia Shield TV is also a great choice for Android TV shoppers. The Nvidia Shield TV not only allows users to stream movies and TV shows, but it can also bring a neat gaming experience with Nvidia’s GeForce Now, which enables users to stream PC and Android games as well. The Nvidia Shield TV, however is more expensive than the options listed above.
Amazon doesn’t currently have brand-new Nvidia Shield TV 4K streamers in stock, but it does sell refurbished units at $155.30.
Apple TV
Lastly, Apple users might also be interested in the Apple TV (2015), which starts at $149 for the 32 GB option. The Appel TV enables users to stream iTunes TV shows, music and movies, as well as enjoy games on their iPhone or iPad. A high-end remote and Siri voice commands are also in the mix.
Bottom Line
In conclusion, there are many great choices out there, ready to suit various budgets and preferences, and the devices listed here are among the top options. Which one would you get? Let us know in the comments section below.
