Home assistants like Amazon’s Echo and Google Home have become a popular choice when buying Smart Home devices but they’re recording your voice searches and saving those on their respective company servers.
There are a great number of security issues that plague the world of Smart Home assistants. Apart from storing your voice recordings there are added disadvantages that range from someone else using your smart home assistant to order things to a hacker listening to your confidential talks and gaining access to data stored on your smart assistant servers.
But if you’re concerned, you have the option of taking control and deleting them from your side — though you can’t be completely sure that your recordings have been deleted from the company servers as well.
Deleting Voice Search History for Google Home
Google records a lot of information from your internet usage, ranging from your location history, YouTube history to device information, but you can control those actions too.
- Login to your Google Activity page using your Google account.
- Click on the three-dot menu — located on the top right on mobile and on the left panel if accessing via a PC — and select Delete Activity by.
- On the new window, select the time period for which you wish to delete the voice search history and then change the bottom drop box to Voice and Audio and click on the ‘Delete’ option.
Deleting Voice Search History for Amazon Echo
Amazon Echo’s voice search history can be deleted either selectively via the Alexa app on your smartphone or you can also delete the complete history at once by logging into your Amazon account.
Via Alexa App
- Open the Alexa app on your device and go to settings.
- Tap on history and you’ll see a list of your voice recordings.
- You can listen to voice recordings here and delete it too.
Via Amazon Account
- Go to the ‘Amazon Content and Devices’ page.
- Click/tap on Your Devices and select Echo.
- Open ‘Manage Voice Recordings’ and select ‘Delete’ option.
