2017 Toyota Prius Prime vs Hyundai Ioniq: Which Tech Suits You Best?

The 2017 Toyota Prius Prime is a futuristic plug-in hybrid while the Hyundai Ioniq comes in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric variants. Both these lineups are rivaling in the same segment but how do they compare when it comes to tech specs?

According to Tech Crunch, the Prius’s instrument cluster is placed in the center of the dashboard below a curved plastic cowl. Feature wise, it is practical but its positioning would require drivers to look more to the right while driving.

The Hyundai Ioniq, on the other hand, positions its TFT LCD cluster right in front of the driver, much to the ease of drivers.

What About The Infotainment?

The Prime Advanced, the top Prime trim, comes with a large 11.6-inch display but it lacks in integration for Apple and Android devices. That said, it was compatible with Siri Eyes-Free and featured Toyota’s Entune App Suite such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, OpenTable, traffic and weather.

The Ioniq hybrid comes with an 8-inch touch screen with navigation if you opt for the Ultimate package. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard along with Hyundai’s Blue Link telematic system.

Don’t Forget Safety!

The Prius Prime is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense which includes pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist and radar cruise control. Although these aren’t standards for the Ioniq, the Ultimate Package will bring similar safety features. Plus, both these models come with rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts.

And Connectivity Is A Must

The Prius Prime Advanced comes with Prime Apps which can manage your charging status via your device, locate a charging station, change the temperature of the interior, as well as locate your vehicle when you forgot where you left it.

Hyundai is one step ahead with its Blue Link which does basically all that Prime Apps could do. On top of that, it integrates with Amazon Alexa, Apple Watch and Android Wear watches. It also has roadside assistance as well as stolen vehicle recovery feature.

So, when it boils down to merely tech, which of these model would suit you better?
